| Economic Empowerment Intern Sakhi’s Economic Empowerment (EE) programming works to empower survivors of violence in earning their own livings and pursuing their own careers. We offer basic computer literacy courses that provide women instruction in resume-writing, internet job search navigation, development in English communication skills, and training in Microsoft and Excel proficiency. We also provide workshops focused on employee rights, starting a small business, and financial literacy – including bank loans, budgeting, investing, retirement funds, and education savings accounts. Through the Swarna Chalasani Economic Empowerment Fund, we provide small grants to qualified survivors for career and continuing education opportunities at accredited institutions. EE Internship responsibilities include: Assisting the Economic Empowerment Coordinator with coordination, recruitment, and facilitation of communication skills or computer classes; Assisting survivors during classes; Helping to coordinate and plan children’s activities during workshops; and, Researching and compiling economic advancement resources including educational institutions, professional licensing institutions, free ESL classes, scholarships, job training programs, and best practices for economic empowerment. For internships with the EE/WHI programs, Sakhi seeks interns with: A background in Economics, Internet/Technology, or Finance Some experience in recruiting economic, financial or job skills training services; Fluency and confidence interacting in one or more South Asian languages (particularly Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu); An ability to commit to 15 hours of work per week including weekends; and, An interest and commitment to women’s rights advocacy.
