Our mission at The Actors Theatre Workshop is to examine the conflicts
we face as a society and provide the community with effective ways to
address the important issues of the day. We created the Builders of the New
World (BNW) program 14 years ago in fulfillment of this mission.

BNW is an after-school theatre and education program for homeless and at-risk
children that prepares them to meet the demands they will be challenged
by in the future. We provide the children with hot, nutritious meals and
educational training and enrichment. We teach them exercises to open
their imaginations and ask them to draw and write about their visions for a
hopeful future in which they are contributing and productive citizens.
BNW guides them to make educational decisions today that will prepare them
to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

Most importantly, the children perform their original creations for an appreciative and loving audience of adults - - the validation and support they receive in the loving and safe
environment we provide has a tremendously positive impact on the
children's self-esteem.
