Learn story structure, how to develop memorable characters, places to find story ideas, exercises to jump-start your creativity, marketing approaches, and much more. In this course you will develop a detailed story outline and work towards writing the first draft of your play.

WRITING FOR TELEVISION
Learn how to develop an episodic TV script using the writing process behind your favorite shows. Students will work towards the first draft of a spec script for an existing sit-com, children's TV series, one-hour drama, or may chose to develop a script for a new TV series of their own creation. The course will focus on story structure and character development for TV. Marketing approaches and submission strategies will also be discussed.

INSTRUCTOR: Barry M. Putt, Jr.’s plays have been showcased in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and California. His comedy A Different Blend of Friendship won the New Jersey Wordsmith Competition and received an AEA staged reading at The Northeast Theatre. The nationally syndicated radio-theatre program "Shoestring Radio Theatre" produced and aired a suspense radio play Mr. Putt wrote entitled The Reign of Leaves. He has developed feature-length screenplays for Aananda Pictures, Bluepitt Productions, and Zee Network. Mr. Putt is currently head writer on the episodic, comedy-horror, TV show "In the Cellar" that airs throughout California. He received a B.F.A. degree with honors in Dramatic Writing from NYU - Tisch School of the Arts. Mr. Putt is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and the American Renaissance Theater Company.
