| Seeking a Production Assistant For Vagina Festival – a visual and performance art experience. Oct. 24-26, 2008 at Sage Theater, Manhattan. Vagina Festival is an opportunity to have conversations we don't typically get to have. In ways we don't typically get to have them. Through visual art, performance, speaker presentations and interactive activities, Vagina Festival forms a welcoming space for exploring sexuality, body image, personal identity, health and well-being. At Vagina Festival, we exchange ideas, challenge cultural norms and celebrate women. Vagina Festival is a collaboration—among artists, performers, speakers, sponsors, our crew, and attendees. Together, we’ll create a fun, moving, thought-provoking experience. A key agent in making it happen is the Production Assistant. This is an opportunity for someone who • enjoys a challenge • takes direction well • follows through • is passionate about conversation Vagina Festival is produced entirely by volunteers. We work from our homes. Frequently from mine [mid-town Manhattan on the east side]. The Production Assistant will work closely with the Producer, Alexandra Jacoby to fill out the program, coordinate artists, performers, speakers and volunteers, engage sponsors, and publicize–pretty much all aspects of Vagina Festival. Production Assistant Qualifications • Commitment to our mission to create a space for conversation. • Self-starter who takes initiative, asks questions and then forges ahead. • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. You'll be making calls, sending emails and assisting with meetings. • Detail-oriented—there will be many people involved in Vagina Festival. Contact lists and schedules will need to be developed and maintained meticulously. This will be the backbone of our production. • Positive and flexible. We'll be creating Vagina Festival where there was none before. Creating it our of own energy and inspiring others to lend theirs. What we put in is what will come out. • Sticks to schedules. Meets deadlines. Can commit several hours a week at first, and more the week of the production. • Computer-literate. Much of our work will be done via email and website. Outlook, Word, Excel—definitely. Comfortable using new programs. • Experience in event-planning and fund-raising preferred. About the Producer My name is Alexandra Jacoby, and since Sept. 2000, I have been working on a book of vagina portraits, vagina vérité®—an unabashed exploration of the plain, ordinary, mysterious matter of vaginas. Vagina Festival is an outgrowth of this eight-year conversation. I'm a high-energy person, overflowing with ideas. A self-taught painter and photographer, who has a full-time job weekdays. Vagina Festival is something I've wanted to do for a while now. I'm energized by the success of Vagina Festival 2007, percolating with ideas, and looking forward to every step of the way toward VF2008 and—setting the stage for a self-sustaining annual event!
