Position: VP, MTV Program Research
The role of the Vice President of MTV Program Research is to lead the ratings research team in all aspects, serve as the chief ratings advisor to the client management team, and to support MTV and MTVN Networks Program Research initiatives. The VP is responsible for delivering strategic plans focused on channel performance and business profitability. Additionally, the candidate is responsible for identifying and developing rating success stories for external press communication, seeking innovative approaches to addressing client business issues, and understanding the market forces within a competitive television marketplace.
Responsibilities
ï‚§ Conceive and implement strategic program research business initiatives
ï‚§ Point person for channel executives to handle rating questions, objections, ad hoc requests.
ï‚§ Initiate, plan and meet team's financial budget
ï‚§ Understanding of programming/scheduling process and needs
ï‚§ Work closely with communications team to ensure that MTV is externally positioned in an optimal light
ï‚§ Knowledge/expertise of competitive channels and environments
ï‚§ Lead the team in terms of creating channel upfront ratings estimates, as well as Long Term Projections
ï‚§ Protect organization's value by keeping information confidential while making relevant data available to all client groups
ï‚§ Communicate demonstrable knowledge of MTV channels, MTVN as a whole, as well as the television and entertainment industry at large, e.g.; policy and technology developments
ï‚§ Articulate vision and business priorities to MTV Program research staff so that they may effectively contribute to overall business and financial success
ï‚§ Manage, train and develop direct reports in research, business and client management skills. Facilitate relationships with clients as necessary
ï‚§ Launch regular discussions to seek opportunities that address staff's unique and individual needs for growth and challenge
ï‚§ Lead a diverse workforce. Ensure that staff participates in and understands the personal implications of corporate diversity and first choice initiatives
ï‚§ Initiate innovative research techniques or analyses to further understanding of business and/or audience
ï‚§ Maintain effective relationships with external consultants and research suppliers
ï‚§ Identify and uphold research best practices and quality standards, ensuring that all research is objective, accurate and meets research quality standards
Qualifications
ï‚§ 10+ yrs program research experience
ï‚§ Detailed knowledge of TV and media industry
ï‚§ Demonstrated research skills: analytic and statistical analysis
ï‚§ Proven management experience with the ability to motivate and lead staff
ï‚§ Strong communication skills, both written and oral, including presentations
ï‚§ Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple projects, meet deadlines
ï‚§ Must be organized, detailed-oriented and an expert problem solver
ï‚§ Knowledgeable about current cultural/media trends with respect to the target audience
ï‚§ Proficient with Word, Excel and PowerPoint
ï‚§ Significant experience w/ Nielsen systems (Galaxy Explorer, N*Power, Marketbreaks, Navigator)
ï‚§ Related MS/MA or MBA preferred
